Now then [08 Jun 2004|10:33pm]

Hello there fellow Bouvet lovers!

I just thought I’d say hi and let you all know I’ve been appointed 'Island Treasurer'
Apparently this job basically is to take care of the economy.. so I propose we spend all the island's funding on erecting a huge beer keg at the highest point of the island ‘Olav Peak’ which is 935m up.. Doing this will attract people the island, thus making tourist profits and all that bollocks and we can all get wasted at the same time.
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, Dave McJazz.

Behold the mighty Bouvet Island flag in all it's glory

So it looks like Ash is joining me and Ali on our camping trip to this remote iceberg.
Here's a postcard from the place, it looks pretty exciting.

If anyone wants to join Ash and myself in either invading, conquering, building a colony upon or constructing a religion based around Bouvet Island than please email me. Alex.

Facts about Bouvet [08 Jun 2004|12:47pm]

This information is taken directly from the CIA World Factbook. It seems to be a little thin on detailed information, but it's a great starting point.

Bouvet Island

This uninhabited volcanic island is almost entirely covered by glaciers and is difficult to approach. It was discovered in 1739 by a French naval officer after whom the island was named. No claim was made until 1825, when the British flag was raised. In 1928, the UK waived its claim in favor of Norway, which had occupied the island the previous year. In 1971, Bouvet Island and the adjacent territorial waters were designated a nature reserve. Since 1977, Norway has run an automated meteorological station on the island.

Welcome [08 Jun 2004|12:27pm]

Good morning all, and welcome to Club Bouvet.

THE official Bouvet Island Welfare Commitee. Together friends, we will travel to Bouvet, take down the shameful flag of Norway and fly our own - become an independent state on the most remote spot on earth.

First of all, let's collect all the knowlege of the island we can possibly muster. We need to post all text (no repetition of facts please) and pictures in this one place. Once this is complete we must use this information in order to understand fully how we are to firstly travel, and then land on the Isle.

I hereby name Alex the official Club Bouvet president, after I - the residing chairman of the commitee. Alice is presidential monitor and Sophie will be the Queen of the South.

Please inform your friends of the project and proposed expedition.
